African American Artist - Eric White pictorializes in an array of visual idioms and ethnicities invites all art lovers to view his works and behold the "Beauty in Detail"

Eric White is best known for his ultra fine life-like depictions of animals and notable geographical locations. Besides his tastefully alluring realism Eric's art not only includes other visual idioms like impressionism but also includes literary idioms as well like romantic poetry. Mr. White works with a broad spectrum of subject matters with minimum polemics and maximum positiviies from his own perspective as well as the personal experiences of others and he accomplishes this with the use of multiple mediums and substrates.

Eric spent his childhood in the Tidewater area of Virginia where his rural roots and majestic views of the Atlantic coast gave him a great appreciation for the scenic countryside beauty for which many of his earlier works were inspired. Eric launched his professional art career with “rural Americana” which featured old barns, wagons, and various farm implements in picturesque country settings. His earlier works also included beaches, waterways, as well as, various boats and sailing ships.

As a senior in high school Eric artistic skills bore distinguishable promise when a local architectural firm used his landscape renderings for pictorial enhancements on their structural drawings. Prior to the evolution of such PC software as Auto CAD, Eric was retained by the firm as a sketch artist to render a measure of realism to 3D structural drawings by adding trees, shrubs, fountains, etc. This work was primarily done with pencil, pen & ink, and charcoal sticks. Eric quickly perfected the use of these mediums along with pastels. As proficient as he was with the use of these mediums Eric simply was not satisfied until he challenged himself to master all the mediums.

Eric’'s fascination with mathematics and science as a youngster motivated him to pursue technical curriculums at Kentucky College of Technology in Louisville and Tennessee State University in Nashville. In pursuit of his education Eric realized that he would have to bear the sole financial responsibility for it. To carry this huge financial burden Eric found himself using his newly perfected art skills in various shopping malls creating absurd caricatures.

"Subsequently, many of Eric’'s clients declared that the detail in his oil painted portraits had more character, luster, and realism than even the photographic studios..."

As his college expenses became even more accumulative there was always a greater demand for the more detailed portraits using charcoal and pastels which was financially more rewarding than creating caricatures. In fact it was exponentially more rewarding to produce oil painted portraits than any other medium therefore Eric had to become expeditiously more proficient with the use of his oil mediums if he was to seize this opportunity. Subsequently, many of Eric’'s clients declared that the detail in his oil painted portraits had more character, luster, and realism than even the photographic studios. These compliments cohered Eric'’s creative skills as a distintive artist simply because his artworks were always executed in freehand.

Mr. White received an A.A.degree in Engineering Sciences and a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering with his collegiate field of study being a comprehensive scientific curriculum, evidently Eric's skills as a visual artist Eric is 100% autodidactic. Therefore, Eric's art credentials are truly reflected in his ability to realistically pictorialize any visual scheme imaginable. Conversely, choosing subjects that speaks to the heart of his viewers and convey positive upbuilding messages is truly the focal point of Eric's skills.

While having great appreciation and respect for his art skills which essentially paid for his college education, Mr. White was urged to devote as electives certain collegiate studies to art appreciation and to various aspects of art history. Of course, the period associated with the renaissance had the greatest influence on his art skills as well as how he would actually structure and conduct his own growth and development as a man.

As a Renaissance man Eric White is a life-long admirer of the acutely ingenious Leonardo Da Vinci and in many ways have imitated his practical skills. Undoubtedly, Mr. White is a fabulous artist but he is also a romantic poet, architect, engineer, technical illustrator, and he is an extremely proficient tradesman in many disciplines from carpentry and woodworking to machining and metal fabrications. As a designer Eric has demonstrated the skills to build whatever he designs encompassing anything from intricate electronic circuitry to sophisticated electro-mechanical devices as well as erecting unique landmark structures including his own home which is a huge Victorian jewel built on a scenic hilltop in east Tennessee. Everything mentioned here regarding the specificities of just a few of Eric's personal indulgements are all true extensions of his artistic skills. It must be understood that the passion Eric feels for his art is not just an ordinary love rather it embodies the very rudiments of his soul.

"...influential people use their prominence to help themselves stand for something great, but wouldn't it be much greater if influential people would use their prominence to help others make a stand?"

Although Eric began to publish his first limited edition prints in 1978, he does not have the desire to boast about the awards he'’s won in juried art shows or list the prestigious places in which he’s hosted one-man art shows, nor does Eric want to boast about the different organizations that sponsors and supports his work. Mostly, Eric does not have the inclination to irritate and expose some of his well known clients by name dropping them as owners of his artwork; in his own words "this is all so inconsequential." In this regard, Eric says that “influential people use their prominence to help themselves stand for something great, but it would be much greater if influential people would use their prominence to help others make a stand.”

On numerous occasions Eric has allowed his artwork to be used as fund raisers for nearby community centers with drives toward education and for the personal development of others.
